Why is it that we think kids need to be "entertained" by electronics to have fun. We went to visit Jason at work yesterday and they had a teeter totter (or see saw depending on who you ask) there. What a simple toy, but Em and Jason spent most of our visit on it. They moved to different places on it to see how it would effect the "ride", they put Liam on with them, they put me on one side and them on the other side. The whole time they were talking about how awesome this was and how much fun it was and why don't all playgrounds have them...that's a good question I guess. They are probably dangerous or something like that. I am always saying that I want my kids to be creative and they usually are when they aren't complaining that there's nothing to do. I need to be more willing to let them take risks and explore things than I am. I am an overprotective Mom and I admit it. I'm trying to do better.
What things do you do to help your kids get away from electronic entertainment and discover the fun they can have?

I miss the see-saws at parks too. Those and merry-go-rounds seem to have disappeared. I'm sure it's because somewhere some kid got hurt and their parents sued...
Anyway, we battle the electronic entertainment here, too. We disconnected our cable (except for Internet), so there's no TV. No movies except on weekends. We don't have any video games, and I won't allow them in my house (that's my overprotective side coming out, I guess), and as for computer games, they're not allowed until all schoolwork is done, and then they are limited by mom. I get to say when they go off.
Sometimes I think our world would be better off with no TV or computers...
Amen to your friend's comment above. We read. Color. Play Memory. Do puzzles. (That's not to say my kids don't love TV/movies/computer games--I think they must be born with a gene for that or something. But I trying to give as many other options as possible.)
