I’m terrible at making resolutions. For most of my life I made them and then forgot about them within days so I pretty much gave up even making them. This year I decided to try again with resolution making, and I’m hoping it will be more successful. A few of my resolutions:
Make our home a cozy place we want to be that makes us happy. This is a big one for me and it includes a LOT of work in tons of different areas like dejunking, organizing, and hopefully redecorating and possibly a little remodeling if I’m brave enough.
Figure out how to build closer family relationships both in our little family and with our extended families. Neither my husband or I had super close relationships with our extended families growing up so we are both at a loss as to how exactly to make this happen, but I always wanted to be close to family growing up so I want to make a better effort to foster closer relationships with family now. (Any suggestions, ideas, or experiences you have to help us figure out how to make this happen would be greatly appreciated!)
Preparedness. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away our family was much more prepared for a disaster or job loss or other trial, but right now we just aren’t. We’ve used up a lot of the food storage we did have and never replaced it, and we’ve let a lot of things like this slide out of importance in our lives. So, I’m going to try to get us prepared. I signed up for the Babysteps to preparedness emails on the Food storage made easy website. These emails break down the huge task of emergency preparedness into small, less intimidating tasks sent every two weeks. If I keep up with these bi-monthly checklists and actually DO them by the end of the year I’ll be totally prepared! Check it out and if you sign up for them too (its free) let me know and we’ll do them together! Everything is more fun with friends!
Keep up my blog more. I’ve been seriously slacking mostly because I spend too much time looking at what other people are blogging and then I either feel like I have nothing to contribute or I just plain run out of time. Well, the first excuse doesn’t make a lick of difference because this blog is for me and my family and if I don’t record the stuff we do then I’ll forget it. The second excuse just means that I have to make better use of my time. So, I will be blogging more and if you feel like commenting I’d love to hear from you!
I have a few more resolutions, but they are personal ones that I will just keep to myself. Do you make resolutions? What do you do so you don’t forget to do them?

Jen, I am totally with you on the food storage resolution and I say we do it together! Pretty sure you will have to check up on me cause I stink at this. Lets do it!!!
I think that reaching out to extended family is important. I'm from a really close family, but David is not. On my side we have a reunion every other year and we do a quarterly newsletter. On David's side, I make sure to do birthday cards. We've also started communicating more on facebook. We're even hoping to do a Disney vacation this summer. The relationships on that side have come a LOOOONG way. It started really small - just with reaching out and trying to communicate. Good luck!
