Attempting to Run

Any of you who have known me for awhile know that I DO NOT like running. That said, I am attempting to start running. I figured if I don't do something soon I'll be the size of a house. I can't do my normal videos etc because Liam will have none of that. If I run/walk then he's in the stroller and so far he seems to enjoy it. Hopefully that lasts. I get all ready so I can leave right when the kids do for school.

Honestly I'm terrible, but I hope to get better over time. Right now I walk for a block or two and then I run for four or five or until I can't stand it anymore then walk again. Today was my third day and I already can run for longer than the first day. The hard part is running into the wind and pushing my non-running stroller, but hey, I'm trying right? I really wish I could find someone else who is just starting to come with me. My marathon running sil has offered to run with me but I think I'll likely be too embarrassed to do that--I'm sure she'd laugh at my "running". I seriously can probably walk faster than I run.

You are probably asking why I'm putting this on my blog--well...accountability is why. If I tell all three of my blog readers that I'm trying to start running maybe I'll be less likely to give up when I remember how much I hate running or when it gets freezing cold outside. I really don't know what I'm gonna do when it gets cold just thinking about my ears aching in the cold and my throat hurting from the cold makes me want to quit right now. Maybe I'll have to get a tredmill...

Any runners out there feel free to share your tips with me 'cause I need all the help I can get!

Have a great day!

Go Jen! The only advice I have is take it slow and maybe only add five extra minutes per week. Unless of course you are in a hurry to see some results. It's just easier to take it slow if you're trying to stick with a new exercise routine. Happy Running!

Sorry Jen, can't help you - I HATE running myself. Why did we ever do track?
I'm getting a bicycle. Aaron and I are going to start our fall/winter training at the IMA (on campus) and then get bikes in the spring for our birthdays.
I only run if something is chasing me. That hasn't happened in a very long time.

Jennie--who knows why we were so dumb to do track, but for the record I ran as little as possible--remember shot put and discus?? You must know how desperate I am to exercise to actually be running...because really I feel the same about it as you do. Lots of people keep telling me that I'll learn to like it--we'll see if I can keep it up long enough for that to be a possibility

Good for you! There is a training plan called the C25K (Couch to 5K)

Couch 2 5K

I was able to build up to running for 10 minutes straight...which for me was awesome, especially since I'm not the most physically adept (hello...Marching Band for PE Credit =)

Good luck - you can do it!

Good luck with the running...I know lots of people who enjoy that, but I do not. Does putting away laundry count as exercise if I walk up and down stairs to do it?

It was good to talk to you for a minute today. Your post made me laugh because I so need to do the same thing and have been putting it off... I hate running but this past year I started slowly running at the gym on a treadmill. I would find a movie on the mini tv and walk until the commercial and then I had to run. It made the commercials seem even LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGER but eventually I was up to about 10 minutes. Of course that was long enough ago that I need to start back at 1 minute increments....

Good for you!!! I need to get out and walk!!! I am not a runner. Enough that it is not even worth me attempting to try. So good job!
