Jennifer McDonald considers herself a woman of mystery. Who is this socialite from Spanish Fork, Utah? Mother of three? Wife of one? Conqueror of the laundry and all spilled milk? Would anyone seeing this mild-mannered mom-about-town realize that after giving birth to fraternal twins while still a student in college she would wait nearly ten years before adopting her youngest son? And that today, she can tame the two teenagers' appetites for fashion and Honey Nut Cheerios, while at the same time starting Backyardigans on Netflix for the toddler? Can this biography handle any more questions without bursting at the seams? Probably not, so we move to swift conclusion with this inspiring quote from one of Jennifer's favorite philosophers, "yes, those birds are very angry, aren't they? And nothing calms an angry bird like being shot across the sky at a bunch of laughing pigs."
A local author visited the kids' school and they came home DYING to read his book. He had a book signing at the Library on Saturday so we headed over to check it out. Emily had gotten her Dad to buy the book for her already so they went to get the book signed. Smokehouse was there with free food (BBQ sandwiches, chips, drinks, and cupcakes) They were also giving out posters so the kids stood in line and got their posters and the book signed. He was nice...I haven't read the book so I dont' know if it's any good, but so far both my kids are reading it and liking it enough to fight over who gets to read it. So, I'll have to put it into my pile of to read books.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
