So, I’ve been putting off announcing on my blog that I signed up for a half marathon in August. As soon as I signed up I thought, “what have I done?!” but now I have to do it. I was able to convince a few friends to join me in this insane idea and so we started training a few weeks ago. This week is the first week we are upping our miles so we will see how it goes. I’m nervous, scared, and excited all at once to see if I can do it . Hopefully training will pay off and we can be proud on Aug. 20th that we did it.
Today was “fitness day” at the twins’ Jr. High. For fitness day they hold a 5K race that anyone can run for free if they sign up ahead of time. I figured it would be an easy and cheap way to run a 5K so I did it with Bonnie and Tami. None of us brought a camera though so no pictures. It was drizzling before we started the race, but thankfully stopped raining while we actually ran. The downpour didn’t start until we had finished running (thank goodness!). I made my goal of getting under 30 minutes so I’m happy about that. I was the 12th woman to finish (that’s not including the students). Hopefully I’ll keep getting faster though during the rest of my training because I’m hoping to be able to keep a 10 min. pace for the half in August. I may have to readjust my expectations when it gets closer—I’ve never done this before so I’m not sure what is realistic.
So, there you go, now everyone that reads my blog knows how crazy I am and come Aug. 20th you’ll know if I succeeded or failed. Happy running!
