Wonderful quote

I was over at my friend Rachel's house last week and she shared a quote with me that I think is awesome! I don't know who said it, or where exactly it came from, but whoever it was is a genius!

"I recognize that each of us has different strengths and abilities. The Lord is grieved when I covet the physical appearance, character assets or talents of others rather than realizing I have been given exactly what is right for me from a loving, all-wise Creator."

I read that quote and it really reminded me of President Uchtdorf's talk at the Relief Society broadcast and how he said that we can be creative in many different ways. I often find myself wishing I had decorating talent like ____ or creative talent like ____ and I RARELY think about the talents and gifts I do have and why I have them. Even when I try to think about them it's hard to not feel like I'm being boastful/prideful. So, I'm going to share a few here one from each of the categories that is mentioned in the quote above.

Physical appearance: I have always loved my hair. I think because my Dad always complimented me about it from the time I was little. I went years without doing much to it just letting it be long and beautiful, but now that I'm getting older I have to actually have it cut into a style or it doesn't look good, but I still like my hair and it's one thing that I am nearly always happy with about my apperance.

Character assets: I don't know exactly what counts as a character asset, but I think I'm a compassionate person. I hate to see anyone sad or having a difficult time and when I do I just want to help them out somehow...I don't always do what I want to, but I always feel for those who are struggling.

Talent: I've always had a talent for music. It's one of those things that I worked hard on growing up but has fallen by the wayside as an adult. I still enjoy singing and playing the piano, but my clarinet and bassoon skills are pretty far gone. Hopefully someday I'll have the time to pick them back up.

Now that I've shared a few things with you please think about your "strengths and abilities" and why the Lord gave them to you and please share them in a comment! I know you can probably think of lots of talents/abilities you WISH you had, but I wanna hear what you already have! I look forward to finding out what talented readers my blog has. ;) Have a great day!

Oh we should get together, how about next week? I am subbing all week long this week. Love the new fallish background.

Okay so I was thinking about your talent question and here are a few of mine:

1- I am really good at family history research and bonus I love to do it. I also am a pretty good teacher of family history.

2- I am pretty musical, I play the piano, sing, play the organ. Well I got tired of missing all the good hymn singing as I played the organ so I developed the talent of playing the organ and singing at the same time, alto no less.

3- Little kids LOVE me. I have some super trustworthy quality about me or something, every baby, toddler and kiddo will come to me. That is a talent I am grateful for because I love kids, I wish I could have more...

There you go, a few of my talents.

Jen

Amberly- Next week totally works for me. I'll email you so we can pick a day/time.

Thanks for sharing your talents! I'll have to pick your brain on the family history stuff.

Hey, if you want more kids you could always adopt some...;) I promise you'll love them just as much as your bio kids (this is one of the questions people sometimes ask me) Once you meet Liam you'll know that it'd be tough not to love him. :)

My talents:
1 - baking (is that a given with me?). I love all things about baking, except the dishes. I love tasting something and figuring out what I could do with it to make it that much better. Funny, I can't translate that into cooking.

2 - letter writing. I love writing real, snail mail letters. My Gran and my baby brother have been the biggest beneficiaries of this. I love stationery for this purpose too.

3 - physical appearance - love my eyes!

Jen

Jennie- yep baking is a given for you...and from the cooking recipes you've shared you do wonderful at that too! ;)

I like writing letters too...but have really gotten out of the habit since all this email stuff makes it so much faster...I do send paper letters to a couple people though.

This is a great post, Jen. I wrote a couple pages in my journal a few months ago highlighting what I am like. I pushed pride and self-consciousness aside to truly record who I believe I am. Not only do I find comfort re-reading it on my low days, but I hope my future descendents will get a better sense of who I am.
A couple items from that list:
1.I love history.
2.I see joy and beauty in little things.
3.When I actually do fold laundry, I fold it in a very particular, fastidiously neat way.
4.I like to learn about people and their histories.

(I hope to see you soon!)
