District Science Fair

IMG_0015 I think I posted earlier about how the twins’ science fair project was chosen to go to the district science fair.  It was this past Wednesday.  They had to be there for two hours for judging and then another hour of waiting and then about an hour for the awards.  I thought they did a great job and you could tell that their parents didn’t do it for them.  The other thing I was impressed with was that no one else had the same project as them or even close to it.  We saw many of the same ideas when we walked through, but the ones that were unique were the ones that interested me.  I’m pretty sure it was high school students doing the judging so I’m not sure how “scientific” the judging was.  I almost wish they would have a score sheet or something so you knew where you stood.  That would be especially nice for those going on to the State science fair at BYU.  (The kids are not going)  I am proud of them and excited that they went when they worked together.  It was good for them to work together.

IMG_0024 The “awards” were pretty much a lady standing at a microphone calling out names and then waiting for that person to walk to the front.  They gave a handful of “best of show” awards and then they just read lists and lists of names that didn’t win an award, but got to go to BYU.  The above picture illustrates Liam’s lack of interest in the whole thing.  He spent most of the time running back and forth between us and Jason Jr. who was sitting a row behind us with a friend.  I’m guessing that the people he kept walking in front of were wondering what was wrong with his mother that she’d let him be so rude, but the alternative for me was a screaming fit throwing kid.

I think the kids were  a little disappointed they didn’t go on and a little relieved that they were done.  (don’t tell anyone, but I’m glad they didn’t go on!)
