Easter Fun

We had most of our Easter fun on Saturday since Daddy wouldn’t be home much on Sunday.  We went to West Valley to Aunt Lynn’s house then to Golden Corral for lunch.  After lunch we made some rice crispy treat eggs.  Jason Jr had seen them on TV—they were hollow, except to make them hollow was really hard because it was so sticky.  We did 6 hollow ones and then gave up and just made the rest of them egg shaped.  It was still fun.  I asked Jason to take pictures for me since I was busy helping.  He took some interesting ones.  P1000598Jason getting the plastic eggs cleaned and ready so we can use them as molds.  P1000603Making the rice crispy treatsP1000609I only like them if they are soft and chewy, not hard and crunchy—I think that may have been part of the problem when we were trying to shape them.  P1000610Nice close up of my behind—apparently Jason felt this was important to record for posterity—I told you he took some interesting pics-including one of my feet???  P1000623Trying to shape the eggs it was hard because they were SOOO sticky!P1000627P1000635I made Jason Jr help since it was his ideaP1000639Here are the non-hollow ones we made then the plastic eggs in the background are filled with hollow eggs with candy inside the rice crispy part.  It was fun to try.

After the treats were done we got the egg hunt ready.  We hid eggs outside and inside.  While we were getting the kids a couple boys walked past and stole the candy out of a couple eggs…oh well.  P1000641P1000642huntingP1000645huntingP1000646the spoils—Liam was very particular about which eggs he would pick up for some reason.  P1000647Shayla showing me her big egg.P1000649We had to dump them all out to count them and make sure we had them all.  P1000651Then we distributed them more equally afterwards.  P1000654The cousins.

When we got home we decided we’d better dye some eggs.  P1000655Liam LOVED it and we even managed to avoid any giant dye messes.  P1000657Some of the handyworkP1000658P1000659When we were done I told them to get by the eggs so I could take a picture—Jason took me literally I guess. P1000662And a cute one of the finished product—we actually dyed enough to fill both cartons, but some had already been eaten by this time and others broke and weren’t deemed picture worthy.  P1000664This is the Bunny cake Em made to take to Easter Dinner on Sunday at Jason’s parents’ house.  I also made these but forgot to take pictures.  Then I dipped strawberries in the extra chocolate from dipping the truffle eggs.  It was ALL delicious and a great addition to the rest of the amazing dinner we had there.

That was our fun Easter…what did you do for Easter?

Vegas Day 3 & 4

Tuesday we were on our own all day because Jason was busy with his conference all day and then had a dinner in the evening from some company that was trying to schmooze them to buy their stuff.
I was really lazy on Tuesday and we (meaning me) weren’t ready for the day until nearly 11:30.  We were just heading out when I talked to a friend of mine and she offered to have us come swim at the cool pool at her timeshare that they were at for a few days.  The kids were stoked about that so we changed into swim gear and headed out.  Too bad for my kids I have such a horrible sense of direction because we ended up driving 15 mins in the wrong direction before I realized I was going the wrong way and turned around.  We did finally get there and the kids had a BLAST.  (Thanks Felicia)  We were there for a couple hours before the kids had had sun and we decided to go get ready for the rest of our adventures for the day, but first we waited for Jason to get back for what was supposed to be a 2 hr break before his dinner, but ended up being more like 45 mins.
Our adventures for the evening included a picture at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. (when we drove by it earlier in the day I noticed lots of people taking wedding pictures there—I’m sure that’s totally normal, but seemed funny to me somehow)P1000563P1000564I was hoping to get there when there was more light, but again miscalculated the time it takes to do things in Vegas…I swear there’s some kind of time warp there that makes everything take much longer than you think it will.  Things like eating dinner and going to the famous Trader Joes grocery store (yes, I made my kids go to a grocery store on vacation—I’m officially a geek if you didn’t already know it, now you know for sure)
After this we headed to Circus Circus to check out the free circus acts they have there, but before we made it to the circus acts we got side tracked by the cheap souvenir stores that were in there.  Em had tried and failed to find something at the M&M store that she wanted that was in our budget for souvenirs, but she found  a cute necklace at one of the stores in Circus circus.  Plus, I found a shirt for Liam and one for Jason too so it worked out really well.  The trapeze artists that performed were pretty cool.  P1000569This was taken from below before they came and kicked us out of the lower (casino) floor because minors weren’t allowed there—we had to walk up the stairs to watch.  P1000571After the short show was over the kids wanted to play a game so I let them have a few quarters.  Jason tried a few games, but didn’t win anything.  Em gave her quarters to Jason and Liam used his to ride on a P1000575truck andP1000578P1000580a rocket ship.  Despite his glower in the picture he loved them—just didn’t want me taking pictures of him anymore.  P1000581This was a late night for the kids and Liam was asleep before we made it out of the parking lot.
Wednesday we slept as late as we could with Daddy up and rearing to get home.  We made him go to the Ethel M chocolate factory and it took us longer to drive there than it took for the “tour”.  It was ok, but there wasn’t a whole lot actually being produced while we were there so I think that made it not as good because there wasn’t a lot to see.  I’m glad we went anyway, but Jason was in a hurry so I have no pictures.
We did get a picture at the Beaver rocking chair on the way home though.  P1000583P1000587Liam wouldn’t look at me and this is Jason’s way of solving the problem for me.  I told Jason that this reminded me of a giant shopping cart that used to be in the parking lot of a store in Kennewick…can’t remember which one though.
So, there you have it.  We had fun in Vegas.
Post edit:  I forgot one of the cutest things from when we were gone and it's something I want to remember so I'm writing it down.  Liam asked constantly when we were going to begas or if we were at begas yet and once we got there he thought our hotel was Vegas so whenever we left it he would ask when we were going back to begas (I just love the way little kids say things!)
What did you do for Spring Break?

Grateful Sunday

Today I’m grateful for a husband that is willing to serve no matter what he’s asked to do—or how far out of his comfort zone it is.  I look forward to supporting him in this new adventure of his—being Bishop of our ward.  GOOD LUCK HONEY!

I’m grateful for good kids that are super helpful and great examples to me and everyone around them.  They were stoked about their Dad being bishop so that says a little something about them and about their Dad.

The whole bishop thing has pretty much been the focus of our life the past week and will be for along time to come.

Pray for us…I’m sure we’ll need it!

What are you grateful for?

Vegas Day 2

Monday I stayed in bed as long as possible in a hotel room with three noisy kids…I think I made it almost to 8:30 am…then I laid there a little longer for good measure before I made myself go run on the treadmill in the hotel gym.  After that I grabbed some breakfast and then got myself ready.  Once we were all ready we rode the hotel shuttle to the strip and went to see the Lions at the MGM.  P1000510P1000523P1000542P1000543It was REALLY cool how close they were to the glass.  They were in a soundproof “cage” and it was amazing how much they acted like big house cats playing with the trainers.  Even Liam was mesmerized by it for at least a few minutes.  Once we had our fill of Lions we walked around the corner to the M&M store to check things out.  P1000553They had a cute 3-D movie that  was short and sweet.  We actually ran into a friend of mine from PTA that happened to be there at the same time as us so we watched the move with her and her two kids.  P1000555Jason and Liam with the M&M race car.P1000556The Vegas sign in the store.  I didn’t get as many pictures in here because I was busy keeping Liam from breaking the overpriced souvenirs all over the place.

By this time we were hungry so we headed next door to a food court that was there so we didn’t have to into a smoky casino to eat.  The kids mentioned several times how grateful they were that we didn’t have to deal with all the smoke inside buildings in UT like we did in Vegas.  I think we all had pretty constant headaches whenever we went inside.

After lunch we headed to the Coke store to look around.  Liam fell on the escalator and was crying a little when we got to the top floor because the edges of the stairs hurt!  A sweet lady was at the top (she was a security person for the store) and she asked him if he was ok and what happened and then she asked him if ice cream would make it feel better.  Normally he ignores strangers at best and at worst he growls at them and tries to hit them.  But he really responded to this lady for some reason and when she mentioned ice cream he stopped crying totally.  Then she went to the soda fountain counter and got him ice cream and brought it to him.  It was so sweet of her.  We thanked her then and again before we left the store.  She was so nice!  P1000558We aren’t Coke drinkers, but it was fun looking at all the paraphernalia anyway.  Jason got  a big glass bottle of Fanta so he could keep the bottle for decoration.  Then we went back to the M&M store to buy a couple things.  We were all pretty tired by now (everything takes forever in Vegas!  plus we were chasing a 3 year old) so we headed back to the hotel to swim.  It was nice and warm out and that was lots of fun.

Monday night we went to Denny’s for dinner and all of us got a headache because of the smoke, but we managed to finish our food.  Then we headed to Ceasar’s Palace to find a treat and check out the statues and fountain there.  P1000559P1000560P1000562 After this it was to bed for all of us we were pooped!  when I told Liam we were pooped he said we needed to get to the bathroom fast! ;)

What happens in Vegas…

doesn’t need to stay in Vegas when you are with three kids.  Earlier this week we all accompanied Jason to Vegas.  He had to be there for a conference and it was the twins’ spring break too so it was the perfect opportunity to go have fun and be WARM!

We drove down on Sunday afternoon, checked into our hotel and then went across the street to try out the famous In-N-Out burger.  I’m sorry to say we were kinda disappointed by it.  I’ve had much better burgers and it was SO SLOW!  Not sure what the big deal is about it, but now we’ve tried it and we know for ourselves.  P1000454P1000456Proof that we ate there.  Liam's favorite part was terrorizing the birds that were hanging out around the outside tables.

After dinner we headed to the strip to check out the fountains and the gardens at the Bellagio.  The kids were impressed.  P1000475 The first jet of Water was kind of loud and startled Liam.  P1000481Carousel in the garden inside the Bellagio. P1000487In front of the butterfly house.P1000494In front of the ferris wheel.P1000495Emily told us we must have moved when she took this one, but I’m pretty sure she’s the one that moved—sure looks cool though.  P1000500P1000503Once they got bored of the flowers we went to look at the chocolate fountain.  Again, the kids were impressed.  We were all exhausted after walking all the way down the strip and back so after this we went to bed!

To see what excitement we did on Monday come back tomorrow!
